About Me

My name is Rebecca Hicke and I am a sophomore English and Computer Science major at Carleton College. My academic interests in both fields are still broad, but I am particularly interested in Victorian Era literature, Shakespeare, fairy tale and folklore studies, and the interdisciplinary applications of Computer Science. I am also interested in digital humanities and how it lies at the intersection of my two majors.
This site will be a collection of work done in English 285 – Textual Technologies: Parchment to Pixel and will demonstrate a broad exploration of the book as a textual object and the development of media from oral culture through the print era and into the digital age. I hope that in exploring this site, you will be able to get a glimpse into the various discussions surrounding book history and the information revealed by examining the physical attributes of a text alongside its linguistic ones.
