What is the significance of the nine magic syllables in the Shingon prayer? What is it? WHAT is it?

1966 Brandon&Niwa TranslationTOGASHI.  (Still pressing. And now one final question. What is the meaning of the nine-word Shingon prayer!  (For a moment BENKEI cannot reply. TOGASHI senses the lapse he has been waiting for. He draws back a pace, and raises his fan in a commanding gesture. He speaks imperiously.)  Come, come! What do you say!

Benkei replies that such religious mysteries are usually kept secret, but he will explain now to dispel Togashi’s doubts.
BENKEI.  (The question is far beyond Benkei’s knowledge of Buddhism. He is furious with TOGASHI and being by nature and impetuous and proud man, he is sorely tempted to abandon his pose. BENKEI is renowned as as warrior ; he knows he could easily defeat TOGASHI. Nevertheless, he controls himself and launches into brilliant improvisation of Buddhist jargon. This nine-word prayer is a precious secret of the Shingon faith and its meaning is most difficult to explain. But to still your doubt I shall undertake to do so.
