About Me

My name is Anna Hepler, and I am an English major in the class of 2023 at Carleton College. This portfolio is a collection of the work that I have done for English 285: Textual Technology from Parchment to Pixel during Spring Term 2021. As a student with a deep passion for reading and for the physical form of books, I am excited to present the work that I have done for this class concerning the history and evolution of texts.
I have greatly enjoyed describing, deciphering, and recreating aspects of various historically used methods of producing texts. While I am glad that we no longer have to carve our own quills from goose or swan feathers on a regular basis, and that printing presses are no longer hand-operated, I am immensely excited to understand all of the writing processes that have brought us to this current time of digital and/or mass-produced texts. I hope that each reader of this portfolio will gain a sense not only of the physical work that I have created, but also of the web of connections I have been able to draw to my everyday writing practices as a Carleton student.
